Encoding and output options

Recommended UTF-8 settings
TXT files omit the encoding marker; CSV files include a BOM. You can also include or omit the marker for all files.
Windows-31J / Shift_JIS
Both are used for Japanese text, but their supported characters differ. Choose the method required by the destination.
Text and CSV structure
Encoding changes, but CSV delimiters, quotation marks, columns and line breaks do not. Reorganizing columns or replacing text is a separate task.
Standardize different encodings to UTF-8

Add a CSV from Japanese Windows and a UTF-8 TXT file, confirm their input encodings and select UTF-8 output. Download both standardized files together in a ZIP.

Useful for

System imports

Use the required character encoding.

Organizing several files

Standardize TXT and CSV files from different sources.

Using files in another environment

Convert while checking whether an encoding mismatch caused garbled text.

Processing and data

Processing runs in your browser; file contents are not sent to or stored on a server. Save required results before closing the page.

Frequently asked questions

Can I rely entirely on automatic detection?

Encoding cannot always be identified uniquely. Confirm it when prompted. A normal file-content preview is not provided.

What if only some files fail?

No ZIP is created if any file fails. Review the failure reason, input and output encodings, and original files.

Will conversion always repair garbled text?

An encoding mismatch may be resolved, but characters already lost or replaced with ? cannot be restored.

Can I use Excel or Word files?

Inputs are .txt and .csv. .xlsx, .docx, PDF and images are excluded. Check the file count and size limits displayed above the tool.
