About this tool

About this tool

Convert letters, numbers and symbols to the selected full-width or half-width forms. Text and files are processed in your browser and are not sent to a server.

How-to guide Full-width and Half-width Converter

Make letters and numbers consistent.

Standardize full-width and half-width letters and numbers in documents, lists and announcements. Set letters, numbers and symbols separately, for example to convert only numbers to half-width. Paste text or use a text or Word file.

How to use the converter

  1. STEP 01

    Prepare text or a file

Paste text using direct input, or choose one text (.txt) or Word (.docx) file. If prompted to confirm the text encoding, choose the setting that produces a readable preview and confirm it.

  2. STEP 02

    Choose what to convert

For letters, numbers and symbols, choose Keep unchanged, Convert to half-width or Convert to full-width. Check the URL and email protection option to leave web and email addresses unchanged.

  3. STEP 03

    Convert and collect the result

Select Convert and check the result and changed-character count. Copy results from direct input, or download the converted file when processing a file.

Check that letters, numbers and symbols use the intended width before using the output. Use Clear to reset the input for another text or file.

Choosing conversion settings

Select only the character types you want to change. Each type can use a different setting, such as full-width letters and half-width numbers.

Letters
Converts between full-width and half-width letters, such as ABC and ABC or abc and abc. Uppercase and lowercase are preserved.
Numbers
Converts the digits 0–9 between full-width and half-width, such as 123 and 123.
Symbols
Converts supported pairs such as ! and ! or () and (). Not every symbol is supported.
Keep unchanged
Leaves the selected character type as it is. To convert only numbers, leave letters and symbols unchanged.
Example: convert letters, numbers and symbols to half-width
Before
商品ABC(123個)
After
商品ABC(123個)

Letters, numbers and parentheses become half-width. The Japanese characters 商品 and 個 remain unchanged.

This tool standardizes the width of letters, numbers and symbols. It does not convert hiragana, kanji, katakana, spaces or line breaks.

File conversion and protection

Text files

Convert .txt files. Encoding is detected automatically; if confirmation is needed, review the preview and choose again. The output retains the original encoding where possible.

If Japanese text appears garbled, confirm the input encoding before converting it.

Word files

Text in the document body, headers, footers, footnotes and endnotes of .docx files can be converted. Download the result as a Word file.

Open the downloaded file in Word or a compatible editor and check line wrapping and page breaks. Changing character width can affect layout.

Useful for

Product and reference numbers

Standardize copied letters and numbers to half-width. Keep symbols unchanged or adjust the settings to match your management rules.

Announcements and internal documents

Make dates, quantities and letters consistent. Use Word file conversion for a document’s final formatting check.

Before filling out a form

Prepare fields that require half-width letters and numbers. Check other requirements, such as removing spaces, separately.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert katakana or spaces?

Katakana and spaces are excluded. The tool does not standardize カタカナ and カタカナ, replace full-width/half-width spaces or remove extra whitespace. Hiragana, kanji and line breaks remain unchanged.

Can I convert only numbers to half-width?

Yes. Set Numbers to half-width and leave Letters and Symbols unchanged. For example, ABC123 becomes ABC123.

Why do some characters stay unchanged?

Characters already in the selected width and types set to Keep unchanged do not change. Japanese text, whitespace, unsupported symbols and recognized protected URLs or email addresses also remain unchanged.

Which file formats are supported?

Text (.txt) and Word (.docx), one file at a time. DOC, PDF, Excel and images are unsupported. Password-protected, encrypted, macro-enabled Word files and files with tracked changes are also excluded.

Is my text or file sent to a server or stored there?

Conversion runs in your browser. Input is not sent to or stored on a server for conversion. Copy or download any results you need to keep.

Are there character or file size limits?

Limits apply to text length, text file size and Word file size. They depend on login status and plan; check the values displayed above the tool. Reduce the text or file size if a limit is exceeded.
