Choosing a merge or split method

Append rows
With headers enabled, matching column names are aligned and rows are appended. Tables can have different column orders; missing fields become blank.
Join by a shared column
Match rows using an employee number, product code or another key and add columns from another table. Choose which rows to retain and how to handle duplicate keys.
Split by rows or values
Split at a specified row count or by values in a column, such as department. Choose whether each file should include headers.
Split by size or sheet
Use an approximate target file size, or split Excel by sheet. Output sizes may not match the specified value exactly.
Combine departmental lists

Sales and administration lists with different column orders can be appended using matching headers. Check column names and first-row handling before merging.

Useful for

Consolidating regular reports

Combine similarly structured tables from several departments.

Splitting for recipients

Separate files using department, owner or other column values.

Adding reference information

Match two tables using a shared number and add the required columns.

Processing and data

Processing runs in your browser; file contents are not sent to or stored on a server. Save required results before closing the page.

Frequently asked questions

Are Excel formatting and formulas preserved?

The tool works with table values. Formatting, formulas, charts and images are not retained. Saved formula results are read without recalculation.

What happens with duplicate keys?

Horizontal joins stop for confirmation by default. You can use the first row, last row or all combinations. All combinations increase the row count, so review the result.

Which files are supported?

.xlsx and .csv are supported. .xls, .xlsm, .ods and password-protected files are excluded.

Are there limits?

Check the limits displayed above the tool. Even within those limits, a device’s memory and processing environment may prevent handling large files.
